The Quay
Five courses
NZ$265 per guest
A shorter passage through the evening, still built around the harbour and the farms that supply it.
Restaurant
Porto Fader is a rooftop dining room above the Waitematā. You are on the official website — portofader.com.

The Sky Tower and the CBD, across the water from the roof
The room sits on the roof at 116 Quay Street. Ferries cross below, Devonport sits on the far shore, and the Sky Tower holds the western edge of the view. In the evening the water takes the last of the light, then the city.
Tables are set for conversation. The terrace is open to the weather when Auckland allows it, and the inner room is glazed so the outlook stays with you if the wind comes up.

There is no shared bench and no standing room. Each table is laid for the evening, with enough space that the harbour remains part of the seating. Blankets are offered on the terrace from autumn through to spring.
The chef’s table, for up to eight, is set at the pass. It is the only place in the house where the kitchen, rather than the water, is the spectacle.

The kitchen works with Bluff oysters, kina, pāua, Ora King salmon, Wakanui beef, Hawke’s Bay lamb, and fruit that still tastes of the orchard. Technique is exact. Flavour is not muffled to make a plate look quiet.
Wine is chosen to the course: Marlborough, Central Otago, Hawke’s Bay, and a short list from Champagne and Burgundy when a dish deserves the distance. A juice and tea pairing is poured with the same care.

The point of the roof is not the height alone. It is the way the harbour, the glass, and the plate meet. Come for a long dinner. Stay until the last ferry lights have crossed the water.
Dress is smart. The dining room is for guests aged 12 and over. This page, and every page on portofader.com, is the official website.
